Background/History: January is a character from the anime Coyote Ragtime Show. She is a combat android and one of Marciano’s Twelve Sisters. She was probably built by Dr. Neilson, an employee of Marciano who handles all of the maintenance and repair work on the Sisters. Her true age and previous history are never revealed but she and all of the Sisters have been around long enough to gain a reputation as deadly assassins.
Madame Marciano the owner/employer of the Sisters is a cyborg. As such she is incapable of having children and this may be a factor in the bitterness that she displays. January and all of her sisters are the daughters that Marciano could never have. In addition to being her own personal hit squad the Sisters act as her servants and children.
Personality/Motivation: January is a bit of a hot head and who is easily angered when thwarted or taunted. She holds grudges and at one point even disobeys orders so she can have a crack at an opponent that previously eluded and taunted her. She seems to delight in spraying copious amounts of automatic weapons fire at her targets and more so that the other sisters enjoys killing. She also displays a degree of vanity when Mister ignores her to talk with Angelica during Episode One. She often behaves impulsively and doesn’t always think things through.
January is capable of caring and sadness, she and her sisters weep upon witnessing the demise of Madame Marciano, their “Mother.”
Quote: “Here, choke on that!”
Powers/Tactics: January is armed with a pair of FN P90 Submachine guns but it is only during the first episode that we see her use one in both hands. In later episodes she seems to only use them singly. Two-weapon fighting does not seem to fit and the use of two weapons during the prison raid was likely just an attempt to use volume of fire to cow the prison guards. In a later episode January is seen to have a hollow hip in which she stores her weapon when not in use. She is the only sister shown to have a compartment like this. It is likely that she has two such compartments.
January never displays any superhuman strength but it can be assumed that she is quite a bit stronger than she looks. In one episode the Sisters are discussing how best to capture their target alive and it is agreed that hand-to-hand combat would work. This indicates that most or all of the Sisters consider themselves to be more than a match for a normal human.
She participates in a HALO parachute assault on the Sandvil prison in Episode One and uses a pair of submachine guns while descending so her parachute skills are good. During Episode Two she rappels from a helicopter and uses a hand grenade in combat.
She has high enough defenses to defeat most firearms. In Episode One she is hit by a powerful rifle (7.62 mm NATO round) in the wrist. The bullet knocks away her weapon but seems to cause no other visible damage.
In a later episode she is caught in the blast radius of cannon fire. She loses her right arm but quickly recovers from being stunned and knocked down. In seconds she is ready to continue her pursuit. April has to call her back to keep her from pursuing her foes in her damaged state. Later when she has been repaired she is seen to display speed reading and speed typing abilities as a test of her new arm and hand.
She also pilots a space fighter very effectively, a skill all of the Sisters seem to share.
Campaign Use: January is an assassin pure and simple. She is often the point person for the Sisters not necessarily because she is ordered too, but because she is impulsive and eager for battle. Unless supervised she will not bother worrying about booby traps and such. She seems confident that her armored body and skill will allow her to prevail without wasting time being cautious.
Appearance: She appears to be a young woman in her late teens or early twenties. She has long blonde hair and reddish-brown eyes. She is of average height with an attractive figure and face. She wears a black short-sleeved dress with a grey and black mid-rift that laces up in the back. Her dress features white lace trim on the cuffs, collar, and hem of the skirt. She has a crimson shawl draped about her shoulders. Her dress, like all of the Sisters, is an individualized maid’s outfit. January is about 5’6” tall but, since she is an android, she weighs 400 lb. Her strength and dexterity still make her appear to be light on her feet.
January Designer’s Notes:
STR 20: January is able to fire two FN P90 Submachine guns at the same time. The STR Min of the weapon is normally 10 and it is a hand-and-a-half weapon so a STR of 12 will allow this. However she does it effortlessly and while drifting down in a parachute so a minimum of 15 STR is justified. Since she is an android I feel that her strength should be greater than that so I give her a 20 (eight times stronger than the average man) but I find no justification for going higher than that.
DEX 20: January never engages in hand-to-hand combat during the anime but she does seem to react quickly and is constructed as a combat android. During the prison raid on Sandvil she is able to easily sweep aside any resistance offered by the prison guards and inmates. She is a skilled fighter pilot and easily deals with human pilots who are presumably well trained. I pretty much have to estimate the score that is fitting a combat android of her displayed abilities. I give her a 20 DEX which is probably better than the average trained fighter pilot.
CON 15: January is stunned by several attacks during the series. She recovers from these pretty quickly. In the case of being hit in the arm by a 7.62mm rifle round during Episode One her reaction was probably just a flinch instead of being truly stunned. Regardless all of the Sisters are easier to stun that you’d expect from an android but they are hard to knock unconscious. I give them a lower CON score that one might expect but they have enough REC and STUN to make them hard to keep down.
BODY 15: Though resilient there is no indication that they have particularly high BODY score. January looks to be about 5’6” tall and of a fairly slim build in a normal human that would be a BODY of 9 or 10 but I assume that her android physiology grants her some density. Since May survives (barely) a direct hit from an RPG-7 (7d6+1 RKA) I have given all of the Sisters more BODY that would at first seem warranted.
INT 10: January never displays any particularly great intelligence. She is skilled in combat but too impulsive to think about things too much. In my opinion nothing above a normal intelligence is warranted.
EGO 12: January is headstrong but never really displays any staggering displays of willpower. A slight elevation of her EGO is perhaps in order due to her determination once she has a goal in mind. There are not any psionic abilities in the anime but if a GM is concerned any of the Sisters would probably count as machine class of mind thereby affording them some protection from normal mentalists.
PRE 15: In Episode One January launches one of the more impressive PRE attacks, parachuting out of the sky while firing a pair of submachine guns on full auto. However most of this PRE attacks relies on a violent action, surprise and the reputation of the Sisters. The costume and her appearance grant her some additional PRE and she seems to rarely be impressed by the PRE attacks of others.
COM 18: This is a very subjective measure since beauty is in the eye of the beholder. In my opinion January is one of the better looking androids thus the score I gave her.
PD 12: January, like her sisters, is obviously armored. In Episode One January is hit in the arm by what looks like a 7.62x51mm NATO rifle round and it does no apparent damage. The hit does cause her to flinch and perhaps suffer some stun damage but that’s about it. In a later episode she is caught in the blast of a near miss from a spacecraft mounted cannon. This blows off her right arm and messes up her costume; she is also knocked down and apparently stunned by the blast. I gave her enough PD to be able to resist most 7.62 mm hits but not so much as to make her cannon proof. Of course she will get damage resistance with all of her PD.
ED 8: None of the Sisters are ever hit by energy based attacks so we have nothing with which to gauge their resistance or weakness to such attacks. I have opted to give her a good deal of ED but not as much as her PD. Her ED will also get full damage resistance.
SPD 4: We never see anything to indicate that she has paranormal amounts of speed. She is a combat android so presumably she will be as fast as any elite or highly skilled human, otherwise there would be no point of building an android assassin.
REC 15: None of the Sisters, if left operable, are down for long when hit. In fact you never see one of them out of action for more than a second or two unless they are completely broken. Based on this January’s (and the other’s) REC is very high.
END 0: We never see any of the Sisters get tired so I have bought them all 0 END cost will all abilities and powers. There is never an indication that any of the Sisters ever pushes. END therefore becomes a moot point. They must run on some sort of high capacity futuristic battery or other rubber science power source.
STUN 50: January and the others are susceptible to being stunned and perhaps they can even be knocked unconscious. You never see one knocked out so I chose to give them a lot of STUN, when combined with their high REC this makes stunning them possible but knocking them out hard.
