Designer's Notes: Katsumi is the primary character of Silent Möbius and as such, is usually at the center of what ever bad things are currently happening. She is the daughter of Gigelf and Fuyuka Liqueur, who were the most powerful sorcerer and sorceress of their generation. Having inherited her parent's magical talents, Katsumi puts them to good use, serving as an officer of the AMP, and defending the city of Tokyo.
Despite having a French father and a Japanese mother, Katsumi is technically an American, since she was born and grew up in Hawaii. Katsumi came to Japan to visit her mother in 2024 after Fuyuka fell ill. Several run ins with entities and the AMP followed, with the result being that Katsumi decided to stay in Tokyo, and join the AMP.
Description: Katsumi is not all that imposing physically, standing 5'5" and weighing about 115 lbs. She has waist length, blue-black hair, that is normally kept tied up in a bun when she is on duty. Her eyes are bluish-purple. She is 20 years old at the beginning of Side One.
On duty, Katsumi wears the standard AMP uniform, off duty she dresses in a variety of casual clothing.
Powers Notes: Katsumi is a powerful sorceress, capable of casting a wide variety of spells. Her use of magic seems to have a 'classic' feel to it. She must chant complex incantations, gesture and spend a few moments building up the power needed to properly cast her spells. The 'sorcery' SPX limitation means that there are certain powers she can't (or doesn't seem to be able to) use. This includes such things as: Growth, Shrinking, Stretching, Flight, Teleport, Desolidification and so on. Most of Katsumi's powers seem to be centered on various applications of Energy Blast, RKA, Force Field, Force Wall, Entangle and the like.
Note: AMP regulations forbid the use of magic on humans.
As mentioned before, Katsumi's incantations can get quite complex, for example:
"The spirit of the flames that shines on the earth and heaven!! Give me a sword of fire!!"
or
"In front of me Raphael. Behind me, Gabriel. On my right Michael. On my left, Uriel. Five shining stars surrounding my four side raise flare. Six shining stars shine in the light pillar. Ater malkt va geblar ve deduler lu aurlam amen.."
Her incantations often require her to call upon the names of saints, spirits, angels and gods. At least once, an enemy recognized her spell by it's incantation alone and managed to disrupt her spell casting by mentioning this to her.
Grospolina is Katsumi's sword. It used to belong to her father, but was locked away in a obelisk after he died. It is a huge weapon and quite intelligent, serving as Katsumi's advisor in all things magical. For a more detailed explanation of Grospolina (aka the Emperor of Swords) see the separate write-up. Katsumi is rather skilled with fighting with Grospolina and often dispatches low level entities with it.
Aside from her magical talents and Grospolina, Katsumi carries the standard gear of an AMP officer.
Disadvantages Notes: Katsumi, for all her magical prowess, is a good-natured woman. She can be a bit reckless, especially when fighting entities. She is totally in love with her boyfriend Roy Devise (known as Robert deVice in the Viz Graphics version). In Side 7, Roy proposes to Katsumi, but is killed at the end of Side 7.
Roy Devise is a Tokyo Police officer, and a member of the Tokyo equivalent to a SWAT team. He is highly competent and has a number of skills relating to all aspects of police work.
Considering her parents and power, it is no surprise that Katsumi is hunted extensively by the Lucifer Folk. They have made a number of attempts to capture and/or kill her. In Side 7, Katsumi faces one of her worst foes yet, a *human* who has sided with the entities!
Katsumi's Unluck isn't so much a combat related Unluck, but more of representative of how things happen in the course of the series. Just when things look to be going well, something terrible happens, usually to her directly, or someone close to her.
As a final note, Katsumi has several minor 'quirks' that are featured in the manga, but aren't really disads. The first is that she tends to fall asleep easily, and has nodded off while doing office paper work. Second, she is know to grind her teeth and snore rather loudly while sleeping. Thus, her fellow officers were rather surprised when her relationship with Roy lasted longer than a few months.
