Balrog

Background/History: Balrog was born September 4th, 1969. He began his boxing career at the age of 19. He was a natural, a bull of a man with speed and savagery more befitting a demon than a man. He won 29 of his first 30 fights by knockout and quickly became a champion. His fortunes took a turn for the worse when he took a new manager, Klaus Hopper. Hopper was considered bad news, criminal ties and allegations followed him wherever he went. These turned out to be very true. Balrog was merely a puppet to be spent up and used. When Klaus no longer needed him he was set up as the patsy in a gambling scheme. His belts taken from him and his name disgraced, Balrog left the sport and tried to find a new life. His money was taken by the government and he couldn't get work other than menial labor. He began fighting in the street fighter circuit, an underground, but lucrative trade. It was there that he found himself recruited into Shadolaw. He served loyally for years earning the position as one of Bison's chief enforcers; but it was not to last. He began to lose fights.

Frustrated by his constant defeats at the hands of others, as well as the abuse he suffered at the hands of his boss, Balrog began studying. Not known for his intelligence, this was a surprising move. However, Balrog had fine tuned his boxing skills to be more effective against the more versatile fighters over the years, now he was going for some serious additions. He studied, the Rising Dragon Punches of Ken, Ryu and the other Shotokan fighters, he looked into the machine gun uppercut of Deejay, and the sonic jabs of Dudley. Taking some time off (actually, going into hiding) he studied these arts and began to train himself in their use. At some point he was approached by a member of the Cult of Fargesh, a demon who enjoyed martial arts combat. Fargesh made an offer to Balrog (whom the demon thought he could easily control due to his lack of intelligence) through his cultist. Apparently Balrog accepted. When he returned from his self-imposed exile, Balrog was not the same man. His very presence was touched by evil, his eyes held a sinister gleam and he spoke with greater eloquence and seemed far more aware of everything around him.

Tired of his treatment at the hands of Shadowlaw Balrog tendered his resignation. This met with disapproval from Master Bison who sent several agents as well as his personal assassin, Vega to deal with the traitor. The agents were returned in boxes and Vega lie in the hospital, taking the better part of valor.

Balrog then began to set up his own criminal empire. He has been laying the foundation by working for various crimelords around Las Vegas and turning in evidence against the Shadowlaw agents who try to get in his way. He is gathering his own henchmen. He has noticed glimpses of a warrior in his peripheral vision, but has never actually been able to see who it is. He has since adopted the name of Shin Balrog.

Notes: This is all pertaining to Chad's World.

Personality/Motivation: A brutal thug whose increase in intelligence hasn't lessened his surliness or his desire to fight. Balrog wants respect more than anything, even money (but not by much). He trains daily and his agents get a beating in "sparring" matches.

Quote: "You are going down. Hard, fast, and with great prejudice."

Powers/Tactics: A brilliant boxer with supernaturally enhanced physical abilities. He now commands an arsenal of strikes and is stronger and tougher than most small vehicles.

Campaign Use: A budding crimelord. Balrog is very different these days.

Group Relations:

Appearance: Balrog is a massive African-American. He is very tall and his muscles ripple beneath his shirt. When expecting combat, he wears his old boxing trunks, training tee-shirt, and gloves. When he is running his organization (fledgling as it is), he wears specially made black suits with black shirts, shoes, and slacks. His ties are red and he wears gold jewelry.
