Background/History: Shion hails from Johji Manabe's 30+ issue series Caravan Kidd. She's the Empress of Helgebard, a post she assumed only a short time before the series starts. So far during her reign, Shion has brought about impressive improvements in Helgebard's technology, specifically its military. She has also vastly improved Helgebard's power generation technology, turning Kyurawiel Keep into one huge energy sink.
Shion's motivations for all this aren't benevolent in the slightest. She is a Series 7 Imperion, built with the sole purpose of turning a backwater planet into an energy resource that can be sucked dry by the "Creators" (a unknown and shadowy collection of characters). But, Shion has broken her programming, and now desires freedom from control, especially the controls imposed upon her by the Creator's. So, she hopes to make Helgebard into a military empire capable of holding off the Creator's ships, so that she may live her life as she pleases, and not as the puppet of some faceless master.
Shion is opposed in her plans by the Breaker, Mian Toris. Mian is the only survivor of the five Breakers put in place to monitor Shion's actions. Once Shion broke her programming, Mian was activated with the sole purpose of destroying Shion and her entire Empire (and the planet if needed).
Personality/Motivation: Shion's personality is quite interesting. When we first see her, she looks a bit different from the image we get in her final appearances. She seems younger, and more "generically" evil. In fact, she is rather cliched in her initial appearance. She is dressed in what amounts to a one piece swimsuit, has a large ugly dog for a pet, kills one of her generals for failure, and then licks the blood from her sword. Pretty typical. As the series progresses, Shion's costume changes (in fact, her cloak gets so long that we never really see what she wears under it until the end), becoming more and more elaborate. She looses the dog by her next appearance and doesn't kill any more generals (until the end, but they started that mess). Shion's biggest changes are in her personality. She becomes more calm, more regal, and more arrogant. She allows Main to escape on at least one occasion just so she can fight with her later. She allows Mian to enter Helgebard unopposed so she can finally confront her in the manner of her own choosing. Shion also wants to be free. She wants to be able to live her life (such as it is) her way, and not be subject to the whims of the Creators. She wants to be free, not a slave, and will do anything and everything to see that come about... including destroying all she has built up.
Quote: "Why did the creator give us a soul?! It did that to us and then denies us the freedom to live as we please! If we were human, they'd call us slaves. I will not be a slave!"
Powers/Tactics: As an android, Shion has powers very similar to Mian's. She is virtually Mian's physical equal (in fact, she looks to be faster than Mian) and is certainly possesses greater levels of INT, EGO, PRE, and COM. She is strong enough to pick up one of her generals by his face (with one hand, even), and tough enough to survive a barrage of small arms fire at close range. She doesn't look to regenerate (unlike Mian), but her android body does grant her some defensive protection and she has the same "Does not Bleed" and Life Support powers Mian does.
Along with her physical powers, Shion is an accomplished warrior, able to fight Mian to a stand still early on in Caravan Kidd. Mian tells Chau Shion could destroy her [Chau] easily. Towards the end of the series, Shion actually defeats Mian in hand-to-hand combat. Shion's weapon of choice is the her sword, and we never really see her fight with only her hands.
Shion's computer brain allows her to track a Breaker's energy signature, although the Breaker has to be relatively close. I added the Eidetic Memory and Lightning Calculator Talents since it made sense for her to have them. These two talents were also loosely demonstrated late in the manga, so there is some justification.
Shion's extensive skill list was designed to allow her to set up, run, and improve an empire. Based on her design parameters as outlined in Caravan Kidd, she would need a number of leadership skills, as well as extensive scientific knowledge in order to accelerate the technological level of the local area to a degree suitable for the Creators. And of course, there are her two Perks, which help define the amount of influence and power she has as Empress.
Appearance: Shion is tall, looking to stand 5'10" or better. She has a slim, long-legged figure, with a knee-length mane of flowing blond (or white) hair. She possess an aristocratic beauty and even Babo states: "Yer a real hot babe." Shion's costume changes dramatically during the course of Caravan Kidd (but, then, so did her personality). She started out wearing a scaled one-piece swimsuit, and ended up in a black bodysuit with knee-high boots. Over this she wears a floor-length gray cloak (actually, a double-layered cloak) and an elaborate arraignment of plates on her shoulders and upper chest, forming pauldron's and a partial breastplate. She also wears a decorative breastplate almost identical to Mian's. If she's feeling really dressy, Shion will add an assortment of decorative baubles and braid to fully impart the "Empress" look.
Shion's height and looks make her unmistakable. The few times we see her dressed "incognito," she adopts a long, hooded, robe to disguise herself. She is also quite well known and recognized, although outside of her Empire this is not always the case.
