Background/History: Mei Shin was born in Hong Kong, the daughter of a Hong Kong police officer, aside from a marked talent for the martial arts, and regular training in the art of Wu Shu, Mei Shin's childhood was unremarkable. This changed however, when Mei Shin was 15 years old. Her father had become recruited into an organized crime task force that was attempting to crack down on the actions of Hong Kong's numerous Triads. As this crackdown become to resemble an all out war between the police and the Triads, Mei Shin's father became worried for his daughter's safety. He sent her overseas to America, to live with relatives in San Francisco. Six moths later, Mei Shin's father was dead, killed in a gunbattle with Triad gangsters.
Mei Shin is now 26 and a five year veteran of the San Francisco Police Department. Her desire had been to return to Hong Kong and apply to be a member of the Hong Kong Royal Police. But, the Communist take over in 1997 soon dispelled that notion. So, Mei Shin decided to stay in her adopted hometown, joining the SFPD and gaining a much desired Chinatown posting.
Personality/Motivation: Mei Shin is driven by the memory of her father. Ever since his death, her ambition has been to follow in his footsteps and become a Hong Kong (now San Francisco) police officer. To achieve this end, she committed herself to a strenuous regime of fitness training, martial practice and education in law enforcement. The manner of her father's death has manifested itself into a deep seated hate for the Triads and the closely related Tongs. In many ways, this may prove to be her undoing, for her drive to avenge the death of her father by destroying the Triads has give her a mindset where "the end justifies the means". To Mei Shin, anything that hurts the Triads is a worthwhile enterprise to her.
Quote: "You have the right to remain silent. And if you stand up and try to mouth off one more time, I have the right to kick you again."
Powers/Tactics: Having been practicing the martial arts from an early age, Mei Shin displays am almost unparalleled degree of speed and agility. For the last five years she's engaged in extensive weight lifting, resulting in a deceptive level of strength that is not readily apparent.
Mei Shin is a competent practitioner of Wu Shu, and is familiar with several of its associated weapon's forms. She has also perfected a a number of unusual techniques, including the "Hurricane Punch" where she punches a foe with a blinding barrage of blows; the "Lightning Leg Strike", similar to the Hurricane Punch in which she launches and amazing flurry of kicks in the space of a few seconds; the "Thunder Kick" which is a kick similar to the Lightning Leg Strike, but the strikes land even faster, and her "Whirlwind Kick". This last maneuver is her most acrobatic, it involves her performing a handstand, and turning herself in a rapid circle while kicking everyone range.
Note: when on duty, Mei Shin carries a Sig-Sauer 220P with two extra magazines, and wears a light armored vest.
Appearance: Mei Shin Li is of above average height, standing about 5'7", with a muscular, well defined build. Her thick black hair hangs well down her back and frames an attractive face. Me Shin is rather enamored of certain aspects of Western culture, and dresses in the current fashions. Her martial arts fighting uniform, however, is a traditionally styled red silk vest and trousers with a gold sash and black boots.
Designer's Notes: Mei Shin is a mix of Ninja Hero and Dark Champions, seeing as she combines video-game styled attacks with a street-level mentality. She was originally created for a martial arts-themed campaign inspired by the Game Master viewing Big Trouble In Little China. This version is fully fleshed out and has her working as a police officer, while the origial campaign version was still in college.
