Background/History:
When Christopher was very young (about 6), his family was visited by an elderly Japanese gentleman who introduced himself as the brother of his mother's mother. He had come to the area to teach kendo at a local school and had dropped by to meet family he had never seen. His parents were a quite surprised by this, and were even more surprised when this man, Katsuhito Masaki, offered to teach the boy the art of kendo.
Christopher learned kendo for a number of years, eventually spending entire summers at his granduncle's school. Eventually, Katsuhito began to explain why he had _really_ come. Christopher was (effectively) the last member of the Masaki ninja clan. A clan, that by tradition, had acted as defenders against the maou (devils) of the world. Thus, Katsuhito had taken it upon himself to pass on what he could, before it was to late.
Christopher didn't believe this stuff at first, although he enjoyed the instruction and training. It wasn't until Katsuhito presented him with the sword Tenshi and showed him several bizarre relics (such as skulls and skins) that he began to think there was something to granduncles's ramblings after all.
Eventually, when he was 16, Katsuhito took Christopher to Japan, to spend a summer training, fighting and learning several important aspects of Shinto sorcery that would aid him later. Christopher has many fond memories of this time. The trip as cut short by the news that Christopher's family had been brutally murdered, cut down by spider hengeyokai (shapeshifters) searching for him and his granduncle. At this point, the pair returned to America, but were unable to resume anything resembling a normal life. Hunted by the hengeyokai, Christopher and Katsuhito began to shift about the Western US, waging a hidden war against the hengeyokai. But old age and enemies caught up to Katsuhito and he was killed a few years later. Christopher Jones himself, aged 23, now finds himself fighting a solitaire war against an evil that few believe in and even fewer will challenge.
Personality/Motivation: Christopher is very driven. He has discarded any idea of ever living a normal life and tries to avoid such things as romantic relationships and long term friendships. This is based on the belief that anyone who he allows to get close to him will become a target (victim) of the hengeyokai. Sworn to slay hengeyokai and similar terrors where ever they may lair, Christopher is also a little single minded.
He will allow no one to touch Tenshi and usually keeps it placed in a position of honor wherever he's staying. There is always a photo showing a young boy in kendo gear standing next to a smiling oriental man placed next to the sword.
Christopher usually sleeps to late in the day and stays up to very late, since most of his hunting occurs at night. Realizing that his martial skill and Shinto rituals are what allow him to slay monsters, he practices shills skills constantly. He often meditates for a period before leaving on a mission, and makes a fresh set of ofuda (talismans) every day (the old ones are burned and the ash is used to make the ink for the new ofuda).
Powers/Tactics: Although skilled in the martial arts, most of Christopher's powers are linked to his enchanted sword "Tenshi". The weapon is very effective when used against supernatural creatures and can even affect ghosts. It can also dispel certain types of sorcery and is capable of detecting the presence of supernatural beings.
Christopher also knows several techniques taught to him by his granduncle. He can extend his own "ki" (life energy) to heal himself if injured, is capable of moving in total silence, and can walk across almost any surface and not leave tracks.
Christopher's ofuda are Shinto talismans made from white paper and inscribed with ancient kanji symbols. When thrown at a supernatural target, they burst into an intense flame.
Appearance: Christopher is 1/4 Japanese, and looks to be a rather normal Caucasian. The only immediate clue to his ancestry is his hair, which is black and very straight. Since he is usually on the move, Christopher often sport several days growth of beard and has very long hair, hanging well past his shoulders. He is lean and of medium height, standing about 5'10". When dressed for "action", he wears a modified ninja nightsuit, with a kendo breastplate. The ofuda are tucked inside the jacket and the canesword is kept thrust through the belt.
