Background/History: Ann O'Brien hails from the pages of Arthur Adams utterly goofy and fun comic series Monkeyman and O'Brien. The series brings to mind (to me at least) early 60's Marvel comics, in which the heroes deal with all sorts of outlandish craziness, such as alien invasions and giant monsters. I mean, how else do you sum up a series with such characters as "The Shrewmanoid," "The Froglodytes," and "Gorildozer"? And, of course, no one ever seems to get killed or even seriously hurt, with the exception of some despicable villains (who are killed by an even more despicable villain).

As for Ann, she's the daughter of wold-famous explorer/scientist Professor William S. O'Brien. He vanished two years before the comic begins, apparently while working with an extradimensional gate generator. The story starts with her in this same lab, arguing with her half-sister, the infamous Oniko O'Brien. When their argument gets physical the generator is activated, pulling in material from subspace. The resulting explosion bombards the both of them with radiation, resulting in Ann's eyes turning bright orange and her body eventually growing to be a fully 7' in height and 250 pounds in weight.

One of the objects pulled in from subspace was the scientist Axewell Tiberius, a 10' tall gorilla. He and Ann eventually team up to rebuild the wrecked generator and find a way to return him to his native dimension. Of course, nothing is that easy.

Personality/Motivation: Ann is a fairly stable person, although she has a notable hot streak to her temper (see her quote below). She has a tendency to act a bit before thinking, and unlike her partner Axewell, is far more likely to punch first and ask questions later. On the other hand, Ann will not back down from a promise, and will stand by her friends and allies.

Quote: "That's it! That's all I can stand because I can't stand anymore! Let me at that totalitarian toad!"

Powers/Tactics: The radiation Ann was exposed to did more than just increase her height. It also granted her superhuman strength, endurance, and durability. She can cover 60 miles in a half hour of jogging, is seen to lift hundreds of pounds over her head, and regenerates the damage done by the Shrewmanoid's bite in mere moments. She also seems to be faster and/or more agile as well, and shows a knack for hand-to-hand combat.

As Ann effectively runs her father's global business holdings, she might have far more business skills, but I wasn't sure what they might be.

As a side note, the declaration that the STR chart is what a character can barely lift and stagger a few steps with helped in deciding on how strong Ann was. There is a panel in the comic where she is pressing 1600 lbs over her head. Using the HERO System rulebook and the STR chart from Fuzion (yes, Fuzion), I figured the following: 1600 lbs press overhead, 3200 lbs to the waist, 6400 lbs maximum lift. Ergo, a 35 STR. Of course, she might be stronger. She certainly seems to punch plenty hard, and might have a few dice of Hand Attack to represent this.

Appearance: Ann stands a full seven feet in height with an athletic frame. Her eyes are orange, as is her hair. She tends to dress causally.

Designer's Notes: Here you go, one 264-point "mini-brick." Ann is suitable for low-powered Champions games, and makes a fine NPC for Silver age-styled settings. As a side note, "Ann Darrow" was the name of the woman captured by King Kong in the movie of the same name, while "O'Brien" was Kong's animator.
