Background/History: Tomo Takino is (as of this write-up) a 17-year-old girl who is a third-year student at a prestigious private high school in Tokyo. This is somewhat alarming to her best friend Koyomi "Yomi" Mizuhara, because Tomo is a notorious slacker who applied for and got accepted to that school essentially to stay with—and tick off—Yomi. A self-described "Wildcat", Tomo is taking full advantage of the opportunities high school presents to have fun, sometimes at the expense of others but often at her own. Although she does not have any especially useful talents except enjoying life, she does that alarmingly well, to the point that people still find her good company despite the obnoxiousness of much of her behavior.

Personality/Motivation: Tomo's attitude is best summed up as "Life is to be enjoyed". She will do anything, however stupid or impulsive, it means she has fun. Thankfully, she does like to see other people have fun too, which tempers the selfishness of many of her actions. She has a tendency to make life-altering decisions based on what would otherwise be passing whims, and has a tendency to "mess with" people she really shouldn't, based on the usually correct assumption that they will forgive her afterwards. If there is a second motto Tomo lives by, it would have to be "God, how I love me!"—she is a delusional egomaniac who frequently acts as though she has capabilities she does not possess and adores being the center of attention. This will frequently cause her to exercise poor judgment, sometimes alarmingly so.

Aside from self-amusement, the most important thing to Tomo is her friendship with Yomi. They've been inseparable since grade school, and Tomo frequently pays special attention to affectionately annoying her. In fact, teasing and generally messing with people is Tomo's way of showing affection, and it is a sign of her high regard for Yomi that she spends so much time messing with her. They are s close, in fact, that she can break into Yomi's room and get away with it (Yomi will express annoyance, but not kick her out), and she will support Yomi in her own way when her friend is in trouble.

Tomo's tendency to allow her whims to dominate her is never more evident than in her choice of eventual careers. A huge fan of Monkey Punch's manga Lupin III, Tomo initially attempted to model her personal style around that series' legendary femme fatale Fujiko. This was alarmingly unsuccessful. Instead, she decided that she was going to become an INTERPOL operative, like Lupin's nemesis Inspector Zenigata, and has actually decided that her future education is going to head into a law enforcement career. Despite the quixotic nature of this ambition, Tomo's unshakable belief in Tomo is very likely to lead her into the police after all.

Quote: "I didn't lose! I'm the runner-up! THE RUNNER-UP! I'M NUMBER TWO!"

Powers/Tactics: Tomo is energetic, yet also a slacker. She has a short attention span and is in poor physical condition—she is capable of short bursts of speed or energy but tires rapidly. Although she will occasionally whap someone to annoy them, Tomo is not a fighter by nature.proper body temperature. She will also age five times the normal rate if denied a life-extension treatment. Finally, Artemis can reproduce via parthenogenesis!

Designer's Notes: Like most of the rest of the cast of Azumanga Daioh, Tomo is a perfect 'template" character around which to insert other abilities for various settings. Frightening as the thought of a super-powered Tomo is, she would be quite amusing as a superheroine with the addition of 150 points in appropriate powers. Wherever Tomo is, Yomi is never far away; they are attached so strongly that many fan writers have speculated that they are attached romantically. If this is the case, Tomo would likely be clueless about the implications of this—"How can I possibly be a Lesbian? I've never even BEEN to Lesbos!".

In a fast-forward campaign, Tomo would almost certainly be a member of the Tokyo police force in some capacity. She would be a particularly good fit at Bokutoo Precinct.

Appearance: Tomo is of medium-short height for a Japanese woman her age. Her figure is slim, but she considers herself underdeveloped and tends to be jealous of girls who are "better endowed" than she is. When not in uniform, Tomo dresses in casual but fashionable clothes, favoring pantsuits over skirts. Although she wore her hair long her first two years of high school another attempt to emulate Fujiko), she switches to a shorter hairstyle in third year that she sees as more in keeping with her choice of profession.
