Background/History: Young Son Goku meets Yajirobei during the Piccolo Daimaou saga. After Kintoun is destroyed by Daimaou's minion, Tambourine, Son Goku falls into a jungle where he encounters Yajirobei. The two fight each other at first, until interrupted by two of Piccolo Daimaou's minions. After the two warriors kill them, Piccolo Daimaou himself shows up, and nearly kills Goku. Yajirobei then helps Goku by carrying him up Karin Tower for healing.
Personality/Motivation: MMost of Yajirobei's disadvantages are psychological. He's a coward and will run from any fight against an opponent who is clearly stronger than him. He's also very surly and short tempered. He blows up at people quite often, and whenever he's talking, he's often complaining about something. Yajirobei has a huge appetite, able to eat at least 5 times his mass in one sitting, and still be hungry. He's willing to do almost anything for food, and will keep it all for himself. Since he has absolutely no chi control, he can't fly or detect power levels and is at a major disadvantage in the Dragon Ball world. He relies heavily on his katana, which he NEVER parts with, unless something serious has happened to him, and even carried it around in the hospital when he visited Goku. This is true for the manga as well as the anime.
Although he's quite obese, this doesn't affect his ability to move around or run away. He also has bad luck, getting into a car and plane crash in the same day, then nearly gets left behind by Gohan and Bulma. He was the one who discovered first hand why you should never eat more than one senzu at a time, and has had a whole slew of bad things happen to him in the anime.
Yajirobei has a tendency to pop up out of nowhere, usually to save Goku's life at the oddest of moments. Examples include catching Goku just before he hit the ground, and cutting off Vegeta's tail. He often stops by to supply Goku and his friends with senzu seeds..
Powers/Tactics: Yajirobei is basically a generic swordsman with some minor martial arts powers. His sword attacks tend to have some typical wild Hong Kong cinematic effects, such as armor piercing and cutting a huge opponent clean in two with a single cut—through the waist of an opponent that looks to be nearly twice as thick as Yajirobei's katana is long! He can survive a lot of abuse, crashing headfirst into a boulder and shattering it. He also survived getting blown up in his car, and a plane crash, with practically no injuries.
His physical characteristics are pretty similar (but weaker than) Mr. Satan's. He's not very tough compared to the Z fighters, although he was probably the third strongest good guy during the Daimaou saga.
Appearance: Yajirobei is a fat swordsman with long, shaggy hair that covers his ears, forehead, and usually comes down to his waist. He wears a red kimono with black stripes, a black obi which he tucks his katana into, wooden sandals, and in the anime once in a while wears a red scarf. He's not very tall, standing somewhere around 5'0, or slightly shorter.
