Background/History: Artificial Humans Number 17 and Number 18 were created by Dr. Gero as his "ultimate" creations. Unlike many of his previous models, 17 and 18 are made from a human base, and are cyborgs as opposed to androids. Originally brother and sister (and not lovers as some of the Z fighters presumed), the pair hail from both Trunks's apocalyptic future as well as the "standard" Dragon Ball Z time line. The write up here represents the main Dragon Ball Z version. The ones from Trunks's future were weaker, but also more violent. Game Masters should add "Casual Killer" (VC, S) for 20 points to the character sheet.
Number 17, the male cyborg, was activated along with Number 18 by Dr. Gero in a last-ditch attempt to destroy the Z fighters. He refused and ended up destroying Dr. Gero instead. Escaping the destruction of Gero's lab (accompanied by Number 18 and Number 16), Number 17 set off to find Son Goku and kill him. The trio weren't too concerned with speed, and took their time in getting to where Goku lived, allowing the Z fighters to try and stop them several times. The two cyborgs quickly trashed all their opponents before running afoul of Cell. After tangling with Number 16, Cell managed to absorb Number 17, transforming into his next stage of existence. Cell then went on to absorb Number 18, becoming Perfect Cell.
After being absorbed by Cell, Number 17 effectively vanished from the manga. He isn't seen again until the very end, in Volume 42, where he is shown living alone out in the wilderness.
Personality/Motivation: Number 17 is some what amoral, disinclined to think of others and highly confident in his fighting abilities.
Powers/Tactics: Number 17 is very strong, very fast and very durable. As with all artificial humans, Number 17 is virtually immune to pain, can survive in any environment and worst of all, doesn't have a chi signature. Number 17 can also fly, leap great distances, and release various forms of energy blasts. He is also shown creating a powerful energy barrier.
Appearance: Number 17 is slightly below average height. He has a very handsome, almost pretty face, and a slim build. His straight black hair hangs to his shoulders. Number 17 dresses in blue jeans, sneakers, a white long sleeved shirt and a black t-shirt. The t-shirt has the Red Ribbon logo on the left breast. Around his neck is a red handkerchief. He also wears a gun belt with two extra clips.
