Tall (6’2”), Strongly Built (200 lbs), and not a pinch of fat
He has a handsome face, chiseled jaw, and a deep voice. His jet-black hair is long and he keeps a neatly trimmed beard. He appears older, but is actually about 19. His stance is intimidating and you get the impression that he can swing the heavy mace he carries with ease. He wears a heavy ancient armor, and you think your eyes are playing tricks, but the scratches and dings in the armor actually create an intricate pattern that seems almost legible. His Tabard carries his family’s crest, albeit slightly modified: a black tabard with a silver tree surrounded by a blood red ring is centered on his chest and three red bars line the bottom of the garment by his feet. The heavy ornamental mace rests easy on his right side. A thick Kite shield is slung across his back. |
Patris and his older brother, Fendel, have been rivals since Patris was born. Their father loved his second wife more, and thus his second son more than he did Fendel, his first son. Their father, well into senility, later tried to make Patris the heir, and this was the last straw for Fendel. During a hunting expedition, Fendel beat Patris senseless and told him that if he did not leave their lands, that Fendel would follow through and kill him. Not desiring bloodshed among family, Patris left his homeland with nothing. Taking refuge in a tomb, a spirit came to him and listened to Patris’ tale. Convinced that the young man was in the right, the spirit gave Patris a suit of armor and an ornamental mace that Patris cherishes to this very day. Although the armor and mace never need maintenance, there appears to be no further enchantment upon them. The armor, however, does fit Patris perfectly and the mace is well balanced and easy to swing. |
Patris is motivated to adventure because he was exiled from his home, he wants to out-do his brother, and by gaining reputation, he can indirectly communicate to his family (by upholding their honor). Being exiled from his home means he cannot afford a complacent lifestyle. Patris is trying to build a reputation for himself so that his brother regrets sending him away. This is also his way of communicating to the rest of his family that he is alive and well.
He is also a bit of a ladies man. Growing up on the stories his mother would tell him, he's got a bit of a romantic streak. He spends a lot of his time around women, and since he's a bit gullible (EGO 8) the women tend to get him into no end of trouble. His silver tongue usually manages to get him out of the trouble he gets into, but this bad habit of his has earned him a reputation with the ladies. |
“What is the code of Chivalry you ask? To some it is a code of “Do’s and Don’ts.” They appear to follow it in public but do not follow when no one is looking. For me, it means to Live one’s life so that it is worthy of Respect and Honor, and to live for freedom, justice, and all that is good. Whether or not someone is looking or taking notice of the deeds I perform I care not.” |
If he is defending someone, he will take a defensive stance around him or her and attack anything that comes close. If he has been challenged to single combat, he will likely take a defensive stance, and try to wear his opponent down to exhaustion, then attack. In Group combat, he will likely take point, and draw attackers away from weaker party members. |
While Patris is adept as using social skills, he’s not very good at resisting them. In addition to his fondness of women and his glory-hound outlook on life, his social behavior can be used to start all manner of plots and quests. |
