Subject: Hero System Page

Hi, I just got done looking through your page with Hero System material and also read your article on creating characters from fiction....I was wondering if you take requests or not...I'm having trouble writing up a character that I am semi-familiar with and I am reasonably new to the Hero System.

Recently, one of your artworks (the snail dragon picture, http://surbrook.devermore.net/gallery/galleryother/snaildragon.jpg ) has been posted on Gaia Online by a user who calls himself 'Ladiesmannum1' and claims to have drawn it. Since it's hotlinked directly from your gallery and only the one picture has been put up, I cannot help but believe that this person is not you, and is instead stealing your art/bandwidth.

If you /are/ the user 'Ladiesmannum1' on Gaia Online, please forgive me for bothering you. If you're not, please let me know, and I'll have the hotlinked picture taken down as soon as possible.

A Comment from the webmaster: The person who emailed me was correct. Someone was stealing an image of mine. It has since been taken down.

Subject: Do you do commercial Artwork?

Hello, I am Chris Rutkowsky, and I am a game publisher (Basic Action Games). I saw your website and was very impressed with your artwork. I was so interested in it, that I thought that I would ask if any of the work might be for sale? I am not interested in purchasing your originals, merely obtaining the rights to use images in one of my products. Currently, I have been using stock artwork, but I haven't been able to find good stock art for the swashbuckling genre. I saw your pirate and musketeer image and thought that they might be good for a product I am working on, though I may also be interested in commissioning a piece for the cover artwork.

Let me know if you are interested,
Chris Rutkowsky

Subject: Sin City Timeline

Hello there!

I am the co-owner of a PBeM that is starting up on yahoo groups that is based on Frank Miller's 'Sin City'.

The reason I'm contacting you is to ask permission to use the 'Sin City' timeline that you host on your site. I would like to copy it to Notepad file and host it on my game's yahoo page, and I would have no problem whatsoever with including a link to your site, or crediting the individual that took the time to put the timeline together.

The reason I'd like to have it for the site is that the game is set to take place before the events portrayed in the movie. And rather than simply snatch the timeline, I wanted to ask your permission. Thank you for reading and I hope to get back to you soon.

A Comment from the webmaster: Since I was asked, and had no reason to say "no," I've allowed the time line to be used.

Subject: greatings read this please

I have read your page about Major Motoko Kusanagi of Ghost in the Shell and I am asking if you could do the same for all of her fellow units of section 9. Like Boco he's my favorite unit. If you could do this please, it would be really cool. My name is Mr. Anonomyous (for security reasons). Thank you for your time.

P.S. GHOST IN THE SHELL RULES!!

A Comment from the webmaster: To be honest, I'm not happy with the Kusanagi character sheet. So if I do Section 9 character sheets, it will be after I pick up and view more of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex.

Subject: Surbrook's Stuff Website

Mr. Surbrook,

Love the site. I was hoping you had a couple of minutes for some game advice.

My friends and I are long time gamers, but mostly w/ d&d and some scattered gurps.

We love the look of Hero and its flexibility, and have tried a couple of go arounds with it, but when we have played it, the combat has was a bit daunting. It also seemed that the "speed" attribute ruled the game. Also, a personal prefernce exhibited by my players is the desire for some constant defense roll; they like having that no matter how small the chance. While Hero provides maneuvers such as block, it then takes an action out of their hands. This irritates the players with lower speeds in particular.

I was wondering if you'd happened upon these issues in your games and was curious to your opinions and solutions.

Thanks again for the time. Hero has the looks of one the more fun yet mechanically consistant games we have seen.

Subject: Sailor Scouts powers

Hello! I have a friend who is interested in playing the Sailor Scouts in the game Heroclix (don't know if you've ever heard of it). I volunteered to make custom stats for the Scouts, but I don't know too much about them. So I found your site, and it is quite good, with lots of information. It helped out a lot, but I was hoping you could answer some more questions about the Sailor Scouts. Please excuse my ignorance...

1. How tough are the individual Scouts? What would happen to one of them if they were, say, hit by a car or shoot?

2. How fast can the Sailor Scouts run? Could they keep up with a professional runner?

3. Can the Sailor Scouts fly? Are they especially good at swimming?

4. Are any of the Sailor Scouts noted for having lots of endurance?

5. Are any of the Sailor Scouts able to easily confuse or outwit an opponent?

I appreciate your help with this. Thank you very much!

A Comment from the webmaster: I know very little about Sailor Moon and was unable to answer these questions. The character sheets on the website were sent to me and are not my creations.

Subject: Surbrook's Site Stuff

Hey, first off, I wanna say great job with the website. I can begin to describe what a godsend it's been for me as a GM of a long running (for me anyway) Champions game, verging on it's 4th year. But I was curious, I know you accept write-ups of established characters from movies and video games and such, but do you accept original characters and bios? I have quite a few written up that may be of use to you. Let me know, thanks again

A Comment from the webmaster: At this time, I'm not accepting original character sheets. However, as Killzone proves, character sheets of material posted in Pictures That Might Be Superheroes are acceptable.

In the description of Strongarm's powers, it says he can use his Multiple lives power none times. So he has a power he can't use? lol

This needs to read nine times. This way he can use the power.:D

Love your stuff.

Subject: Gunsmith Cat Write-up

Just writing you to inform you of a mistake on your GSC write-up concersing Rally's Mustang. Its the GT500KR. The KR was introduced in 1968 with the 429 Cobra Jet engine midway into the 68 selling season. Rally is driving a 1967 GT500, the Cobra is siting inside a rectangle, the KR was a 68 model was standing alone for that year, the rectangle was used on the 67 model. Also there were only 2 engine models for the GT 500, Shelby mustangs did not usually have engine choices, they were the more power mustangs, so they packed power. The GT500 came with a 428 with dual quad carburetors, it has the same size dimensions of a 390, but gave 50 extra horsepower. An option engine was the 427 medium riser, it is estimated less then 50 67's have it, there were specially built for indiviuals and dealers. Figured you would like to know.

A Comment from the webmaster: The character sheet has been edited. I will point out that just because the character says "X" it doesn't mean I made a mistake -- my information could be accurate -- with regards to the source material. So if Rally's Cobra has a 500cc engine, that might a mistake on the part of Kenichi Sonada, and he might have made it on purpose.

Subject: Character Page for Alexander Anderson

I was reading (and enjoying) your character pages for the Hellsing series, but I felt I must correct you. Alexander does not use strange short swords. Those are bayonets, which seem to suggest some sort of past alluded to in the cutscene with him and Alucard years before.

A Comment from the webmaster: The anime never made it clear as to what Anderson was using. The manga does, but it came out after I saw the anime version of Hellsing.

Subject: Sengoku RPG?

Mister Surbrook,

I happened to come across a 7/3/06 posting of "Sengoku Game Development" in the Roleplay Online website.

Being that chambara and jidai-geki is my main hobby an obsession (it took over roleplayoing when I moved away from my roleplaying group of years and years) I wanted to know if you still intended to launch such a game. I'm interesting in participating and aiding you in any way you might consider.

If you are too busy to manage such a venture, I totally understand.

BTW - there's a sale at http://www.kurotokagi.com/ ...$10 per DVD for a limited time.

I know ytou from the HERO games forums, and I submitted a story/character to you for a Kazei-5 game that I regrettably could not continue (even before it began). I'm not a staljker. Just similar interests, it seems.

A Comment from the webmaster: Currently, I'm not planning on running anything set in the Sengoku period. Err... and if I did, it would a face-to-face game, not a PBEM.

I apologize in advance, as I have not yet taken the proper time to look through the site's various works; I am merely intrigued by the character Carlos Jagger, whom it is said is of a mixed Irish and Puerto Rican background. This intrigues me because that is my ethnic background as well. I am curious as to what thought led to this decision. Once more, I apologize, as I have yet to take time to view the rest of the site's portfolio.

I hear you are re-doing everything in Herodesigner. (Man, how did you find time to do all those characters without it?!) If so, you really need to post the .hdc file along with the character pages for those of us who might use them.

If it helps, Iíve submitted a half-dozen or so characters to you in the last couple years and would be happy to send along their .hdc files. Or would that just clutter up your email?

A Comment from the webmaster: Hero Designer HDC files are just fine!.

Subject: Check out my gaming top list

Hi susano,

My name is Stefan Johansson and Iíve just recently started up a gaming community. I found your email on the web and I would like to invite you to my site. The site is a gaming top list with a forum and an expanding community. It has now been opened for about 2 weeks and we already have 70 sites registered under a lot of different categories.

The idea with the current gaming top list is to provide another source for users to find your web page. Having your web page listed with us, and having a high rank through votes, will result in that users find your site easier and that you get a higher search engine position for your key words. Only thing you have to do is register (free) and then add a small piece of text (HTML) to your web page. The rest will come by your users voting for you.

Hope to see you at www.toplistgames.com.
Best regards Stefan Johansson.

Fantastic fluff-texts for great pictures! Only one little nitpick, in case of the Dragone (lion-dragon), giant serpents as well as griffons would prey right back on! Since those are deadly armed as well.
