Transformed from a scrawny underweight weakling into a perfect physical specimen by the Super Soldier serum, Steve Rodgers and his partner Bucky fought Hydra all across Europe during World War II. On the fateful night they destroyed the Red Skull's dimensional portal he fell into the arctic after Bucky was killed by the Skull's exploding getaway rocket.
Captain America was missing and assumed dead for more than 70 years until he was found and revived by the Avengers. Now he continues to fight the good fight. Hydra still needs stopping, Zemo has somehow cheated death, and the people still need a hero.
aptain America has, as Thor once put it, "the Heart of a Warrior". He is fearless in battle, confident in his abilities, and trusting of those he fights beside. He is compassionate and kind to others and puts the welfare of innocents first in every battle. Perhaps his greatest ability is his clear moral compass and basic sense of decency. This clarity of purpose and courage in battle in an inspiration to all those around him.
As confident and motivated as Captain America appears, when he is alone Steve Rogers often wonders if he should have survived the Red Skull's trap. Everyone he knew is long gone and the world has changed so much as to be unrecognizable to him. Despite all the heroics, deep down Steve still thinks of himself as a simple solder from Brooklyn.
No matter how scared people are of you, no matter how much you are hounded, you always do the right thing. And that makes you a hero in my book. Now let's smash some more HYDRA goons!
The Super Soldier Serum has reshaped Captain America in to a paragon. Every physical attribute has been raised to the peak of human perfection. Physical near-perfection combined with extensive combat training makes Captain America perhaps the greatest hand to hand fighter in the world. He uses his indestructible shield in a unique combat style that has grown out of years of intense battle. Captain America frequently charges into large hordes of agent-level opponents, making sweep attacks trusting his shield and DCV to protect himself.
The Captain has a great deal of control when throwing his shield. He is able to slice through inanimate objects or knock out living opponents with a throw. Using combat skill levels to "bounce" his shield to attack from odd angles or hit multiple opponents has become his trademark.
Designer's Notes:
- Captain America's shtick is "Physical Perfection". Where this puts him on the Hero System scale is a very old argument and this write-up not only has to work within the Hero System but also balance against the rest of the Avengers. His feats on the show combined with the Hero 6th edition characteristics chart lead this designer to put most of his physical abilities in the low to mid 20s. This makes him stronger, faster, and tougher than "ordinary" exceptional humans like Hawkeye or Black Widow without letting him lift cars.
- Rather than attempt to duplicate all his shield tricks with the powers system this write-up assumes liberal use of combat skill levels for things other than just adding to OCV/DCV. Bounce attacks, adding damage, and other Skill Level uses very adequately simulate Captain America's abilities on the show.
