Background: Joseph was born a humble peasant in the small village of Ciran. When he was young, a monk named Yago came to his village. He examined the bizarre mark on Joseph's hand, and proclaimed him to be the Summoner, a child of great magical potential. Yago gave him the ring of Darkness, used to summon monsters. Not too long afterwards, Ciran was attacked. As chaos ruled the streets, Joseph used his power to aid the village's defenders. Young and inexperienced, he could not control the demon he summoned, and it destroyed the town. Overcome with grief, he threw the ring away and fled.

Ten years later, Soldiers from Orenia, the empire to the north came to Joseph's new home of Masad. The sought the summoner, and cut down all the townspeople looking for him. Joseph slipped out of Masad, and sought out Yago to help him. Upon finding Yago, Joseph discovered that Orenia's emperor Murod had sought him out, after a prophecy foretold he would destroy Murod. Joseph set out again to find the other three rings of summoning and defeat Murod.

Personality/Motivation: Joseph is afraid of the powers he was born with, and of the unknown destiny the summoner carries. He tries to be an upstanding and honest citizen, but finds that his powers bring him nothing but grief and sadness. He is wary to summon other monsters with his ring, but will do so if he must.

Tactics/Powers: As the summoner of legend, Joseph is a naturally magical being. He knows a small selection of defensive spells, and can channel his life force through a weapon, draining his opponent or inflicting great harm upon him.

Joseph's most important power is the ability to summon monsters from the four rings. Only he, the summoner, can accomplish this feat. The monsters obey him solely by the force of his will and the magic of the rings. If Joseph is knocked unconscious, the monster immediately turns on him and his allies.

Appearance: Joseph is a young man of nineteen, of average height and build. He has an open and honest face, with short brown hair. He wears a padded red tunic and blue leggings. He carries a short sword with him for his protection. The back of his left hand bears the mark of the summoner, a circle with four spires that reach up to his fingers.
