Princess Garnet was raised in Alexandria castle. She was fond of her parents, but grew distant from her mother after her father's death. When Alexandria began moving against the neighboring kingdoms, she noticed a strange, white-haired man roaming the palace who seemed to have her mother's attention. She concocted a plan to see her uncle, regent Cid of Lindblum, and warn him of Alexandria's aggressions.

When Zidane and his crew snuck into the castle, she took her chance. She fled onto their ship, only to be caught by Zidane. The princess then requested to be taken to Lindblum. Before the crew could make their escape, Garnet's overprotective bodyguard interfered and the plan was ruined. They barely escaped, crash-landing in an evil forest in the mist-filled valley below Alexandria.

Garnet was rescued from the forest by Steiner, Zidane and Vivi, a young mage who had found his way onto the ship. The four of them set out to Lindblum. Garnet quickly took up the name "Dagger" and tried to act like a commoner in order to avoid suspicion.

Garnet is at times impulsive and childish. She has lived a sheltered life, and is unfamiliar with the world outside her castle. She is honest and friendly, and takes a liking to Zidane and Vivi. She is determined to help her mother and her people, and sometimes seems reckless, rushing into danger to achieve this goal.

At a young age, Garnet discovered she had the ability to summon creatures known as "Eidolons." She had never heard of such a power, and became afraid, as no-one else seemed to possess it. She became afraid of her own power, and tries to avoid using it or even admitting she has it.

Quote: "Someday I will be queen, but I will always be myself."

Garnet is an accomplished white mage, trained in protective and healing spells. When working with Zidane and the others she will usually stay out of combat, holding back and assisting the others while they fight. She can summon an eidolon to the battle if needs be, but she is very loathe to do such.

When she reaches trance, her Eidolons remain in battle, constantly blasting the area with their attacks.

Garnet is beautiful young woman of sixteen. She has long black hair tied up at the end. She wears an orange jumpsuit over a white shirt. She is never without her family treasure, a large crystal pendant. In her trance state, her hair turns blonde and she glows with golden energy.
