Moller 400

Description: The proper name for the Moller 400 Skycar is "volantor" (meaning to hop nimbly about). Or: volantor (vo-lan'ter) n. The Moller 400 is a vehicle being developed by Dr. Paul Moller. The Moller is a eight-engined vectored-thrust flying "car". It has a streamlined fuselage with a pointed nose, an enclosed four passenger cockpit, and four engine pods. The M400 mounts eight engines in four nacelles, with each engine driving a seven-bladed variable-speed fan. Lift and thrust is provided by variable-camber vanes mounted in the exit duct. By changing the angle of the engine vanes and flaps, one can change the direction of the Moller's flight path as well as adjust speed. When completed, the M400 is supposed to have the following capabilities: four passenger capacity, a 740 pound payload, cruising speed of 300-350 mph, a top speed of 380-390 mph, climb rate of 7800 feet per minute, a 29,000-30,000 foot ceiling, a range of 900 miles, and 15-28 MPG on standard automobile gas. The vehicle is 19.5 feet long and weighs 1,090 kg. The Moller comes with a single nose mounted headlight, internal radio, and an auto-deploy parachute that activates in case of engine failure.
