Background: Dark Helmet is the commander in chief of Spaceball 1, the greatest battleship in the entire Spaceball armada. He also commands the Schwartz, a mystical power of unknown origin. No-one knows how he managed to achieve these two posts, given that he's a short, nerdy, weak and hopeless imbecile.

Personality/Motivation: Dark Helmet (hopefully not his real name) wants to be a ruthless, vicious and evil warlord. He is short tempered and easily frustrated, especially when bested by others... which, it has to be said, happens very often. He is very confident in his abilities (limited though they are) and likes to take out his frustrations on his hapless crew - covering one's groin has become a second salute of sorts on Spaceball 1 when Dark Helmet is in a bad mood.

Tactics/Powers: Dark Helmet commands the Schwartz, an ancient and mystical power. By focusing it through his (rather tacky) snake-head ring, he can generate a sword of pure energy or fire destructive bolts. He can also create realistic illusions to fool people. It's possible he also has telekinetic powers like Yogurt or Lonestar, but they were never displayed. Then again, since he got the "down side" of the Schwartz, it's entirely possible that he missed out on them - no doubt to his even greater frustration.

Appearance:
Dark helmet is an imposing figure, clad in black armor and wearing a massive, foreboding helmet. His mere appearance strikes fear in those who regard him - until he lifts the faceplate, at which point he is revealed for the short, hapless, bespectacled nerd that he is.

(Dark Helmet created by Mel Brooks, character sheet by Max Fauth)
