HISTORY
Théoden was king of Rohan during the War of the Ring, and was seventy-one years old at his death. Son of King Thengel, Théoden was the seveteenth king of Rohan, and eighth of the Second Line.
Théoden was a powerful warrior in his youth, and a powerful king. But under the evil spells of Saruman and his counsellor, Grìma, Théoden declined into dottage. He was cured in 3019 by Gandalf the White and regained much of his old vigor in the short period before his death.
He led the Rohirrim against Saruman at the Battle of the Hornburg and against Sauron's forces at the Pelennor Fields, where he defeated an army of Haradrim. He was slain by the Lord of the Nazgul at the Pelennor Fields.
