Background/History: Sometime in the near(?) future, the world is devastated by a global nuclear war. Once it is over, the United States in no more, in its place is the Nation of California on the west coast, the Nation of Boston on the east, and a few scattered communities in between (Albuquerque, Salt Lake City [population: 10,000], Seattle, and so on). In to this ruined world was born Hell Tanner. The seventh (and youngest) child in his family, he received his unusual moniker when the nurse asked what name to put on the birth certificate. His father answered "Hell" and left the room.

Growing up in a foster home after his mother died (a few weeks after he was born), Hell apparently didn't have much use for society, and joined the Hell's Angels at the age of 16. At the age of 19 he led the gang, and true to his name proceeded to raise hell all up and down the coast. He and his gang killed men, raped women, robbed and extorted money and goods from anyone unable to defend themselves, and even went so far as to sell people as slaves down in Mexico on the Barbary Coast. Eventually he was caught, and while Hell sat in prison for Assault With a Deadly Weapon, his gang was virtually wiped out in the Big Raid.

Hell is finally given one last chance to redeem himself. Boston is suffering from the Plague, and someone needs to deliver a case of Haffikine serum to the east coast before the population of what is left of the United States is effectively cut in two. Given a pardon for all crimes he has committed in the Nation of California (both known and unknown) as well as a heavily armed and armored car, Hell agrees to drive what is affectionately called "Damnation Alley" to deliver the serum.

Personality/Motivation: Hell considers himself the "last Angel," a definition that pretty much sums up his entire attitude and outlook on life. If someone messes with him, Hell's Angels honor requires him to stomp that someone or else he'll look weak. He must uphold the reputation of the Angels, by being the toughest guy around, taking no lip from anyone, and generally looking out for the only people that matter, which, since he's the last Angel, means himself. Naturally, this whole outlook has no room in it for such ideas as government and law enforcement, as well as charity, common decency, and humane treatment of your fellow man.

Interestingly, Hell's trip across the Alley changes him on an emotional level. It allows him to realize what he's missed by living in such an apocalyptic time. So by the time he finishes the run, he may not be a saint, be he's far less of a sinner.

Quote: "I'm me. I'm an Angel. I don't have to pretend to be anything else. If they don't like me, than can cut me down, if they're able to. So far, they haven't been able to. So screw 'em all! I don't dig this mimic bit. No thanks. Not at all. They can go to hell, every motherin' one of 'em!"

Powers/Tactics: Hell's main virtue is that's he's just a little bit tougher, faster, stronger, and more wary then the next guy. This also makes him a topnotch driver, capable of pushing a vehicle through all of the debris the sky is willing to rain down on the world, and in Hell's world, this debris can range from rain, to masses of salt water, to gravel, large rocks, and lightning that falls not in bolts but in sheets. Hell is also physically tough, and towards the end of the story withstands quite a bit of abuse and comes out alive and pretty much intact. He is also fairly adept with weapons, be it his fists and feet, the SS dagger in his boot, handguns, or the weapons mounted in his armored car.

Appearance: Hell Tanner stands 6'2" with stocky build. His hair is probably worn fairly long (shoulder-length is a good bet), he is bearded, 25 years old, and left handed. On the back of his right hand is the tattoo of a red heart pierced by a dark blue dagger. Over that is his name, "Hell," with each letter set on a knuckle. As an Angel, his clothing is biker's leathers.

Designer's Notes: Hell can be easily dropped into any game needing a driver. Although his attitude is best suited for dystopias, he could be used Danger International, Dark Champions, and Cyber Hero games as well. As for the world of Damnation Alley, suffice to say that is a post-holocaust wasteland like no other. Powerful winds circle the globe at an altitude of around 600 feet, making airplane flights impossible and rending long-range radio useless. These winds also strip the mountains down to the bare rock, dropping all they collect in great falls when ever the concentrations of debris become to much for even the wind to support. Radiation has mutated many creatures, and Hell has to deal with 40' long Gila Monsters, bats with a wingspan of 40'-50', snakes 120' in length, spiders big enough to spin webs between buildings, 50' wide cactus, giant thorn bushes, and gangs of humans, both feral and otherwise. It is not a pleasant world by any stretch.
